Affordable gatherings in Toronto, starting this Thanksgiving
One long table.
Four comfy hours.
Fifty-five dollars.
Toronto is full of expensive tasting menus and packed bars, and almost nothing in between. Gather Mate is centred in the middle: a proper holiday supper with
live music, room to talk, and a ticket price you don’t have to think twice about.
48 hours to change your mind
Cancel within 2 days of buying & you’re refunded in full. After that we’ll try to pass your seat, but we can’t promise it.
$55 covers it all
Food and music are in the ticket. Drinks are separate; there’s a small bar with craft beer & Ontario wine.
Dietary restrictions?
Write to us before you book and we’ll tell you honestly what we can and can’t do for your diet or allergy.
Coming alone is normal
Plenty of tickets are single ones. Check-in runs a full half hour so nobody walks into a room already mid-conversation.
Free Polaroid memento
We will snap a Polaroid picture during the evening for you to take home as a free keepsake.
What Gather Mate actually is
We’re a small team in Toronto that kept noticing the same gap. Big events are expensive and impersonal. House parties cap out at twelve people you already know. There’s very little in the middle: an evening for twenty-five or thirty people that costs about what dinner and a drink would cost anyway.
So that’s what we run. We find a room, put on a good home-style meal, book a musician, and open the door on the days when this city feels emptiest, long weekends and holidays. Not fine dining, not a networking night. Closer to the best kind of potluck, if someone else did the cooking and the dishes.
This Thanksgiving is our first one. We’re being upfront about that: we’re learning what works, the menu isn’t locked, and the room size will land somewhere around twenty-five to thirty. Everything we’ve promised on this page is something we know we can do.
Our first gathering
Thanksgiving supper, with a singer in the corner
A Sunday afternoon into evening on the Thanksgiving long weekend. A festive supper and all the sides laid out buffet-style, along with dessert, an hour of live music, and a moment before we eat to say what the year has been. You come, you eat a lot, you talk to people you didn’t arrive with.
Date
Sunday, October 11, 2026
Time
4:00 to 8:00 PM
Where
1033 College St, Toronto, ON
Ticket
$55, supper and music
How the four hours go
Loose, not scheduled to the minute. But this is the shape of the day, so you know what you’re buying a ticket to.
4:00 to 4:30
Getting to meet everyone
Find your name on the list, grab a drink, put your coat down. A full half hour of arriving, so turning up at 4:20 is completely fine.
4:30 to 5:30
Music while people settle
A talented artist will play in the corner. It’s a background set, not a concert, nobody has to sit still and face the stage, and you can talk right through it.
5:30 to 6:00
A few words before we eat
We will go around the room and say thanks to the year past, not a prayer, just what the year gave you, what you’re hoping for, what you’re glad about. Say a sentence or say nothing; both are fine.
6:00 to 7:00
Supper
Everything comes out at once, buffet-style. A hearty main dish, the sides, and desserts. Go back for seconds, that’s what it’s there for.
7:00 to 8:00
The memorable goodbye
Coffee, last bit of dessert, the part where people swap numbers and stand around by the door for twenty minutes. Leave whenever suits you.
What we’re planning to put out
A home-style festive meal, laid out buffet-style so you help yourself and go back for more.
Eating differently? Email us before you buy a ticket. Tell us what you avoid — vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten, a specific allergy, and we’ll tell you plainly what we can manage on the night and what we can’t. We’d rather talk it through than have you find out at the buffet.
The bar. Drinks aren’t in the ticket. There’s a small bar with local craft beer and Ontario wine, priced sensibly, plus coffee, tea and soft drinks included all evening. Bring your ID.
Why Canadians eat in October
Long before any of it had a name on a calendar, Indigenous nations across this land held harvest feasts and ceremonies of thanks. The European version arrived in 1578, when Martin Frobisher’s crew held a meal of thanks in what is now Newfoundland and Labrador after surviving the crossing.
The date wandered for centuries before Parliament fixed it in 1957 as the second Monday of October. It sits early here for a simple reason: our harvest comes in sooner, and by late November there isn’t much left to celebrate outdoors.
What it looks like now is mostly a long weekend and a big, hearty meal. It’s less commercial than the American version and much less rigid. There’s no correct way to do it, which is exactly why a room of near-strangers can do it together. We’re hosting on the Sunday, so anyone with family plans on the Monday can still come.
Booking, and then what
1
Buy a ticket
Name, email, and anything you want us to know about how you eat. Two minutes. Confirmation lands straight away.
2
We send the details
A photo of the entrance, how to get there by transit, where to park, and the final menu. Sent about a week ahead.
3
Turn up hungry
Bring nothing but yourself. Wear what you’d wear to a friend’s place. No dress code, and nobody is going to make you do an icebreaker.
Take a seat
Thanksgiving supper, Sunday October 11. $55 a seat, whichever option you pick as the bundles just save you buying one at a time. Payment goes through Stripe and your confirmation arrives within a minute.
One seat
$55
Coming on your own. A good chunk of the room will be doing the same thing, and the half-hour check-in exists so that’s easy.
Two seats
$105
Bringing someone, a partner, a roommate, the friend you keep rescheduling on. One checkout, two names on the list.
Bring four
$200
A group of friends, a small team, a family. Four seats in one go, and we’ll keep you together at the table.
Money shouldn’t be the reason you spend the holiday alone. If $55 is out of reach right now, write to us, we’ll work something out quietly and nobody at the table will know.
What we’re thinking about next
Nothing here is confirmed yet, how Thanksgiving goes will decide a lot of it. Not all of them are dinners. Waitlist members hear first.

Brewers, bakers, roasters: pour with us
Every gathering puts twenty-five to thirty Torontonians in a room for four hours with time on their hands and something in their glass. If you make beer, wine, cider, coffee, bread or dessert in this city, that’s a better introduction than an ad.
We’re also open to venues with a room going unused on a holiday, and to sponsors who’d rather cover a few tickets than see their logo on a banner.
What a partner gets
- Your product on the bar or the table, poured and named out loud
- Ten minutes to talk about what you make, if you want them
- Credit on this page, in the pre-event email, and in the photos afterwards
- Honest feedback from thirty people who tried it in one night
Questions people ask before buying
I don’t know anyone. Will it be awkward?
Probably for the first fifteen minutes, honestly. Then the music starts, people get a drink, and it stops being awkward. A lot of tickets are single ones, so you won’t be the only person who came alone, and the half-hour before anything happens exists exactly for this.
Where is it, exactly?
We’re at 1033 College St, Toronto, ON. We’ll send ticket holders a photo of the entrance, transit directions and parking notes before the event. If you want to know anything about getting there before you buy, just ask.
What’s your refund policy?
You have 48 hours from the moment you buy. Change your mind in that window and we refund you in full, no questions. After 48 hours tickets aren’t refundable, because we commit to the food and the room based on the count. If something happens, write to us, we’ll try to move you to another gathering or pass your seat on, but we can’t guarantee it. If we cancel the event, everyone is refunded in full.
Is food included? What about drinks?
The $55 covers the buffet supper, the pastries, coffee, tea and soft drinks, and the live music. Alcohol is not included — we run a small bar with local craft beer and Ontario wine that you pay for on the night. Taxes and additional fees are not included.
I have an allergy or a specific diet.
Email us before you book and we’ll go through it with you. There will be vegetarian options on the table, and we’ll do what we reasonably can, but no promises.
How many people, and who are they?
Somewhere around twenty to thirty, mostly a younger crowd, a mix of people who grew up here and people who arrived recently. It’s not a networking event and it’s not a dating event. Anyone who makes the room uncomfortable is asked to leave and doesn’t get invited back.
Is the venue accessible?
We’ll publish the confirmed details about the entrance, washrooms, seating, noise level and distance from transit. If access matters for you, email us before buying and we’ll describe the space honestly.
Can I hire you for a private gathering?
We’d like to, and we’re taking enquiries now for anything from about fifteen to forty people for birthdays, team dinners, community events. Send us a date and a rough headcount and we’ll come back with what it would cost.
Not this one? Come to the next one.
One short email before each gathering with the date, the food and the price. People on the list hear before anyone else. No newsletter, no marketing, one click to leave.
Talk to a person
Messages go straight to our small team and get answered within a day. If anything about the evening worries you, ask before you buy a ticket rather than after.
Buying a ticket means you’ve read the refund terms above. Questions about a private booking go to the same inbox.
